News
At 10:00am, Thu
13 Dec 2007, the contact for the HoHH Community Group named in the
registration of the handsoffhaywoodhigh.org.uk domain name with Nominet
(the Internet registry for .uk domain names) visited the Civic Centre
after being asked to contact Peter Hayes, head of communications at
Stoke-on-Trent City Council (Peter Hayes, Tel 07831 462505).
This HoHH
Community Group member was told by Mr Peter Hayes that certain parts of
the original www.handsoffhaywoodhigh.org.uk web site should be removed,
or the Group member would personally face legal action as the "owner"
of the handsoffhaywoodhigh.org.uk domain name, and therefore ultimately
responsible for the site.
Mr Hayes stated that he had a hard copy of the offending parts of the
web site.
Since its
inception in the summer of 2007, the www.handsoffhaywoodhigh.org.uk web
site has been visited more than 1300 times and applauded for its
quality, and for its representation of the views of the Community.
The HoHH Community Group had the ongoing invitation to require
amendments to web-site updates, but the site received no complaints.
Just as there
have been no complaints from the Community about the web site, we have
yet to meet a community supporter of the Serco proposals to close all
of the secondary schools in the City. Basically the Community do
not trust Serco and the Council; and want of trust is the reason for
closing not some but all of the web site, in this case not to be fair
but to play safe. It's the wrong time of year to be homeless on
the streets of Stoke-on-Trent.
Nevertheless,
we will feel free to develop the site from here on with news on keeping
Haywood High School / Engineering College open.
[A technical
legal point presently being confirmed by our legal advisors: with
Nominet, the "Registrant type" for the handsoffhaywoodhigh.org.uk
domain name is "Other UK Entity (e.g. clubs, associations, many
universities)". The Group member named is merely a representative
of the informal, without-officers, unincorporated association, i.e. the
HoHH Community Group. The Group member name can be easily
changed, e.g. in the event of death, at no cost and without transfer of
ownership of the domain name. The Community Group is the "Owner (
= Registrant)" of the domain name. Any legal action would have to
be taken against the Community Group - more homeless people!]
